mother's day printable.

Happy mother's day week!

Now that I think of it, mother's day should be "mother's week" instead. Even that wouldn't be enough to celebrate all that moms are. I am so thankful for my mom! So much of who I am today comes from my amazing mama. :) Sad I can't be with her this mothers day, but I am certainly there in spirit!

To celebrate mothers day, here's a sweet, but simple mothers day printable card.

a declaration.

In the past year, I have had a few people ask me about drawing/writing up tattoos for them. It sounded like so much fun and the thought of having my handwriting on someone's body for the rest of their life seems mind-boggling. I never actually got the chance to do it until recently though. A sweet girl named Beca emailed me about writing out "The Lord's" to be placed on her forearm. She chose these words to be a declaration. In Isaiah 44, Isaiah says that some day people will proclaim that they belong to God and mentions how some will write "The Lord's" on their hands. She decided to express her devotion to God in a similar way. I love this so much and was so thankful to take part in this declaration.

engagement story.

Ok, the engagement story. I think I've told this story about a thousand times at this point. To my friends, family, strangers, dentists, waitresses..just about everyone. And it never gets old to me!
It was a perfect way for David to ask me to marry him.

Ok, fast forward the last week of January. My mom and I planned on driving down to Florida for some family and friend (and of course David) visits. On our way down, I receive a text from my wedding planner friend, Laura. She desperately needs someone to lend her a few extra hands at her inspiration shoot on Friday. Her sister-in-law cancelled on her and she could really use me for a couple hours. It worked out to be a time when David was working and I had no plans set for that day, so I agreed.

Throughout the week, Laura and I texted about meeting up and all the details on the shoot. She even sent me the "itinerary" that she emailed to all of the vendors contributing to the shoot. I mean, this thing was legit. On Friday, I arrive at the most beautiful ranch where Laura and the vintage rental gal, Lisa, were already setting up. It was beautiful! A handmade sailboat, a sweetheart table set for 2, all of my favorite flowers.. I mean, it was gorgeous! I did small things like, attach "Mr." and "Mrs." signs to the back of the chairs and chewed gum to stick under candle sticks so they wouldn't fall over. (you know, the real hard stuff). Photographers and videographers arrived and started doing their thing. I was told the models would be arriving shortly, so we had to speed things up. Then Laura sent Lisa and I out to the store to grab some ice for the ice bucket. When we returned I walked the ice over to Laura, and she asked me to grab the lighter off the sweetheart table. So I walk on over to the sweetheart table where videographers and photographers were filming. I contemplate how to get to the lighter without getting in their shot. (Little did I know, they were filming me!) And low and behold, on the table setting is a note addressed to me in David's handwriting. I started to read this really sweet note with a final sentence leading me to look up for my man. And out pop's David, snapping a photo of me. He proceeds to tell me how much he loves me and then get's down on one knee and asks me to be his wife.

It was such an incredible moment - I will never forget it. We got to enjoy the sweetheart table filled with cheesecake and sparkling white grape juice to celebrate. I soon realized the "Mr." and "Mrs." signs I attached to the chairs earlier were switched out to "Mr. David Lapham" and "Mrs. Juliet Lapham". Those sweet details make my heart leap.

I am so blessed to call David my fiancé and soon to be husband. He worked really hard with Laura, and all of the other vendors involved to make sure I was so surprised by his proposal. God has blessed me with a man made just for me and I am so thankful to be the future Mrs. David Richard Lapham.

Southern Weddings feature.

My saturday morning started off great with a feature on Southern Weddings. Whenever I am featured on a blog like Southern Weddings, I can't help but feel giddy with excitement! It's such an honor to work alongside such talent and creativity. Thanks to Nancy Ray and Caroline Joy for having me be apart of this shoot for their Branches and Light attendees.

I said yes!

Well, it's official. I'm engaged to my very best friend and I really couldn't be happier!
I'm taking it all in while I can, because I know this "engagement" season of our lives will flash before my eyes. We have no plans set yet, and while a part of me finds that a bit stressful - I'm just resting in the fact that no matter what, I'm marrying the man I love! I feel so blessed to call David mine. I honestly don't know what I did to deserve him! God is good!

We both have been so overwhelmed with love from family and friends the past week! We feel so special. So thanks to anyone who's texted, called, commented, etc. They all mean to much!

More to come on the proposal. :)

xo,
a future Lapham

Making apartments not so apartment like.

I'm hoping in a few weeks/months, I will be moving to Florida and more than likely living in an apartment again. I think everyone sort of has a love-hate relationship with apartments. They have their perks but most certainly have their disadvantages too. Most apartments have very dull interiors and it's hard to look past that when wanting to doll it up and make it feel like home. Sometimes when I walk into apartments, all the little things I would change about the place are bouncing around in my head. I can't help it! It's just my nature. :)
So here's my usual thoughts :

OPEN CABINETS

I just love the look of open cabinets. Carefully remove the doors and hardware to give you that open cabinet feel. Obviously, this only applies to those who have pretty dish ware. :)

ADD A KITCHEN ISLAND

If you have the space in your apartment kitchen, I suggest taking advantage of that by adding an island. It will give the kitchen a more complete look plus more counter space.

REPLACE DRAWERS WITH BASKETS

Try taking out the drawers in a kitchen or bathroom and replace them with pull out baskets. This gives off a much more unique look than your standard cabinetry and breaks the look up a bit.

CHANGE OUT THE LIGHT FIXTURE

Now, this may be tricky so I suggest having a handy boyfriend, husband, or friend do this. (unless your handy yourself - go you!) Changing out the unpleasant light fixtures in an apartment instantly makes the space 10x better. Just keep the old light fixture in a safe place and replace it before you move out.

ADD A FAUX MANTLE

Who doesn't love a pretty fireplace? Find yourself (or build) a faux fireplace mantle to add to your apartment. This right away will give you "cozy home" points.

DRESS THE WALLS

Don't be afraid to hang things up, people! Dress those walls with pretty art, pictures or anything you may think of. I love the way this wall of old family photographs looks, don't you agree?

BRING IN THE MIRRORS

Mirrors are a great way to decorate a small space. They make the room feel larger and really open up a room.

ADD A RUG

A lot of apartments have not-so-pretty beige carpeting throughout. Unless you're one of those lucky ones who landed a place with wood flooring. Adding a rug can not only make that carpet look more appealing, but it also adds some layers to the room.

ADD CURTAINS

I can honestly say I absolutely HATE the blinds that come in apartments. Tear those suckers down and replace them with nice curtains.

Just a side note, that might be obvious - but I feel like I should say it anyways : Make sure you hold on to anything you take down in your apartment and put in a safe place. Your apartment complex is going to want to see the place in the same condition you found it in. So be careful when removing cabinets, light fixtures, blinds, etc.

Now go make those apartments pretty, y'all!
